Who is the head of your body?

Updated: Mar 31, 2022

Col 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

So many things have happened in the body of Christ over the past several years that it leads me to this simple question. If Christ is the head of the church, why are so many churches experiencing failures in the pastoral and staff roles? Why have so many churches struggled to maintain and inevitably why are so many churches closing? I wonder if we have lost sight of this simple thought, "Christ is the head of the church" and every ministry, event or plan that generates from that body must be generated by the head, which is Christ. Are we missing the calling of Christ and substituting our own will in to those places. Have we found ourselves missing the very the basic idea that no man can dictate to the body (church) their will over His will. I wonder if we have somehow refused to humble ourselves before the living God and have been arrogant in our plans and purposes. Paul finished this chapter with "For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me."(Col 1:29) Are we toiling for our own plan or allowing Him to powerfully work within us?

If we continue this train of thought and recognize that our body is a temple to Him, are we truly letting Christ lead us in our daily life? So many questions that we have to answer about ourselves and our churches when we ask the question, "Who is the head of your body?"

Much love
