Scripture describes the laying on of hands in several places. Jesus did it to heal, the Apostles did it to heal but also to ordain. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:6- "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands." In the 70's (yes, I am showing my age), a group named Lovesong performed a song titled "Two Hands." A line in that song says, "with one reach out to Jesus with the other bring a friend." Daytona biker church has as a tag line, "Bikers bringing bikers to the cross." We have an obligation as believers that goes beyond just good deeds. That obligation is about not just saying the words but living the words of Christ when He said, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." I believe that this nation needs people to not just talk about helping others but living lives to help others. It isn't enough to just say the words, we need to actually do something to lift others.
Woodrow Wilson in a speech said, "The only way your powers can become great is by exerting them outside the circle of your own narrow, special, selfish interests. And that is the reason of Christianity. Christ came into the world to save others, not to save himself; and no man is a true Christian who does not think constantly of how he can lift his brother, how he can assist his friend, how he can enlighten mankind, how he can make virtue the rule of conduct in the circle in which he lives." Woodrow Wilson -October 24, 1914
As we face the issues of this nation, let us reach out one hand to those in need and one hand to heaven. It is the way...
