Jeremiah 31:31- “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah." The definition of a Biblical Covenant is a relationship between two partners who make binding promises to each other and work together to reach a common goal. They're often accompanied by oaths, signs, and ceremonies. Covenants define obligations and commitments, but they are different from a contract because they are relational and personal.

They're often accompanied by oaths, signs, and ceremonies. Covenants define obligations and commitments, but they are different from a contract because they are relational and personal. I have used this in weddings for years and I talk about the covenant relationship is not just a contract but a relational commitment between two people with God at the center of that relationship. Using the story of Ruth and Naomi as Ruth was committed fully to taking care of her mother in law even when Naomi wanted to release her back to her own people. Another name for covenant is testament, so if you think about it the bible is really divided in to an old and new covenant and we are now living under the new covenant with Christ. As believers we are committed to a covenant of grace ourselves and our community with Christ at the center. We should covenant to be ministers to each other and every person we come in contact with. (2 Corinthians 3:6) Our relationship with Christ fully commits us to the world with him at the center. Does the world know us?
