The Breath of God

And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.-1 Kings 19:11-13.

A person's voice box works when a person breathes across the cartilage of the vocal chords causing them to vibrate. As I contemplate II Timothy 3:16 that all scripture is God breathed, I wonder if we were to listen to the scripture as the breath of God goes across them, would we hear His voice declaring for us the intent of the words The scripture proclaims the intent as teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  I think sometimes we look for the Lord in the power of the storms, the earthquakes, the fires and the tearing down of the mountains in our lives but God often talks to us in the whispered breaths of life. In this same way the voice of God is breathed through the pages of the scriptures. If we took the time to open the pages and spread them out in front of us, the breath of God would reveal to us His most powerful messages of hope and faith.

It is time to quit listening to the noise of this world and listen in the quietness for the voice of God as He reveals to us His intent. I read recently that in spite of the isolation and loneliness of the past several years, the rate of daily Bible reading went down from 14% to 9%. Even in those times of distress we have missed out on listening to the Creator of life and love.

Much love
