John 12:36 Jesus says, “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
Recently my granddaughter Adaline was over for a few hours and we started watching old bible songs on Youtube. It was a nice break from Blippi to tell you the truth. We were watching the Good New Guys who did alot of the songs from when I was young (60+ years ago) but what was incredible was Adaline was so in to the songs that she would do all the dance/hand gestures and sing about as loud as she could. One particular song on youtube was "This Little Light of Mine" at https://youtu.be/cKkbIZtqhyQ?si=q0dX85ZO_KEl4ZOq. The video was a little lightbulb with legs walking through a town lighting up everywhere it walked. In the video what started as one light bulb turned in to several light bulbs marching through the darkness and shining the light.
As we have been studying Acts in recent weeks, I am reminded of the early church and how it was developing and forming at a time of darkness in the world. The world continues to be a dark place and with the recent change in the season we see more darkness outside now than we see light. That is a great metaphor for the world today. Every day we as believers see more darkness than we do light and sometimes the darkness tries to destroy the light. Scripture tells us in John 1:4-5 -"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." and then Jesus himself says in John 12:36- “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
We are called to be a light in this world of darkness and no believer can be fully committed to Christ unless they let their light shine before others. And let us remember that in concert with other lights we are even more effective. Let your light shine.
