Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Home From Work We Go

John 9:4- “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work."

Labor Day is coming next week. Wikipedia says, "Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States." Have you ever wondered why some people do a certain job. Seems like they hate the work, hate the people and hate the job. They must seem focused on paying bills, living a certain lifestyle or having an image. My grandfather used to say that in life there are three parts. The 8 hours a day you work, the 8 hours a day you sleep and the 8 hours a day you play. If you can enjoy the work and who you sleep with, the last 8 hours is much more enjoyable.

Jesus said in John 9:4 that we must work the works. The real meaning of that statement is we must be in engaged in the labor of God. There will be a time when the world is dark and unresponsive to the word of God and it is our mission and calling to spread the Word. There is message deep within this passage. When Jesus healed the blind man he was reaching out to the world in a way that the established church would not. Instead of focusing on the healing and the miracles of God, they were locked in to the legalities of the church and admonishing Jesus for healing someone on the Sabbath. While I get the reverence of the Sabbath, we ought to be working the works of God anytime and in anyplace. There will be a time when it is too late and we may be the person that can brings the message. Colin Raye has a song called The Only Jesus and one verse says:

And who am I to judge him, don't know what he's been through

If I read the Bible right, it's only something God can do

If I can help him out of darkness, let him see the light in me

I might be the only Jesus he will ever see

Jesus call to us is pretty simple. "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few." (Matthew 9:37) Labor Day is coming, let us work the works of Him who sent us..

Much love
